The Aquaculture Students Association (ASA) are proud to present the Aquaculture Careers Event (ACE) 2021.

ACE was a shorter session this year, using an online format we presented a panel discussion with 5 aquaculture industry and marine science leaders, two workshops and a host of written biographies to inspire your future career.

For anyone that missed us on the day, the following videos will be available here for one month.

CV & Interview Workshop

This workshop was delivered by Lauren Ferguson, the Careers and Employability Consultant for the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Stirling. Lauren has 12 years’ experience in Higher Education, supporting students and graduates to develop their employability. The first part of this workshop covers the different CV formats used in the UK and how to effectively articulate your skills and experience in writing. The second part focuses on professional interviews and give practical tips and advice to prepare effectively.

Grant & Scholarship Writing Workshop

This workshop was delivered by Simon MacKenzie, Professor of Immunology and Fish Health at the Institute of Aquaculture. See below for career biography.

This workshop for early career researchers (PhD and PDRA) details some aspects of planning grant applications across different funding agencies. In this 90 minute workshop you will discover the different funding opportunities available as well as insights into how to structure a good application and what reviewers are looking for.

Careers Panel Discussion

A panel of aquaculture experts and marine science afficionados took us through their education and background, career path to date, their current position and responsibilities, how they ended up where they are and what their organization or company looks for in potential employees.

Following speaker presentations there was a chance to ask the panel anything about their career path, aspects they think are important in career choices, or career queries you had.
